Get The Facts? by Heidi Valdez Roeglin

We wanted to know some safety facts, so we did some research on the numbers and what we found was alarming.     The fatality rate for excavation work is 112% higher than the rate for overall construction, with 60% of accidents occurring within the first year of an employee working.  And the workers that are getting injured are 25-34 years old, and costing companies an average of $42,000 per person for injury costs.  The companies being affected are the smaller employers/companies by 75%!   Needless to say, safety has to be a priority!  So we looked at the most basic Safety Rules and tried to break them down to some of those most common and most important.  Here are the SAFETY RULES:  1. YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR OWN SAFETY AND THE SAFETY OF OTHERS.  BE ACCOUNTABLE.   2.  DO NOT TAKE SHORTCUTS.  ALWAYS FOLLOW THE RULES.  3. IF YOU ARE NOT TRAINED, DON'T DO IT. YOU HAVE THE POWER TO PREVENT AN ACCIDENT BEFORE IT HAPPENS.   4. STAY FOCUSED. DON'T TEXT/USE CELL PHONE WHILE OPERATING MACHINES.  5. ALWAYS WEAR PPEs.  Now you know!  Be Safe Out There!
